With a mission to provide innovative, age-appropriate, culturally-sensitive, and research-supported curricula to promote health among the youth in our service area, CAPSLO has provided medically accurate, comprehensive sexual health education in local schools since 1977. Our programs are compliant with California Department of Education requirements for Comprehensive Sexual Health Education. The Teen Sexual Health Empowerment program was designed to expand the reach of comprehensive sexual health education on the Central Coast and has been generously funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Adolescent Health since 2015

Teen Sexual Health Services Include:

  • Classroom Instruction and Special Group Facilitation using Positive Prevention Plus, Making Proud Choices or Be Responsible, Be Proud, Be Protected
  • Training of School Health Staff to implement Positive Prevention Plus
  • Training for School Health Staff in the most recent updates in birth control methods and student reproductive rights
  • Training of School Staff in LGBTQ affirming practices and creating safe spaces for all youth
  • Technical Assistance and Support for Health Teachers:  provide individual classroom presentations for specific sexual health topics and/or co-teach with Health Teachers and provide classroom supplies
  • Special sexual health presentations (Booster Sessions) for graduating seniors before going to college
  • Workshops for Parents – How to talk to your student about relationships and sexual health; accessing reproductive health services for your teen; LGBT affirmative practices, etc.
  • Assist in the development of school policies to ensure students’ reproductive rights and access to quality reproductive health services
  • Facilitate student-led advocacy projects to help improve teen sexual health or services
  • Arrange for reproductive health clinic tours for students and staff
