40 PRADO HOMELESS SERVICES CENTER

** Note on COVID-19 Updates: As of today, the Center located at 40 Prado Road, San Luis Obispo, CA: 805-544-4004, x100, is open and working with onsite partner,  Community Health Centers, to keep volunteers, clients and staff safe. Due to the ever-changing situation please call 40 Prado to get the latest information on restricted access. We are currently not accepting out-of-county individuals at this time.

In order to allow for health screening before entering the site, all people staying the night must arrive by 3 p.m. All other programs provided at 40 Prado are currently operating; this includes Recuperative Care, SLO-HUB for co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues, case management, laundry, showers, three meals a day, safe parking, etc.  See below for a list of program needs. **

The 40 Prado Homeless Services Center is a 365 days per year facility that helps individuals and families improve their health and stability and move them towards self-sufficiency.  Services available to all participants include:

  • overnight shelter (up to 100 beds)
  • meals
  • showers
  • laundry
  • mail/phone services
  • access to case management
  • primary medical care
  • animal kennels

Specialized services include the SLO-Hub Project for individuals seeking assistance in dealing with mental health and substance use issues and the Recuperative Care Program that provides a safe place to recuperate and convalesce for individuals who would otherwise be discharged to the streets.

Additionally, 40 Prado serves as the Warming Center location for the City of San Luis Obispo during times of inclement weather.

    40 Prado Warming Center

    The Warming Center is open November through March when the whether overnight is predicted to have a 50% chance of rain or higher or 40 degrees or colder. It is currently closed for the season.

    Safe Parking

    The 40 Prado Safe Parking programs offers individuals living in their cars a safe place to park overnight at 40 Prado as well as access showers, meals, mental and physical health services, and housing case management.

    SLO Hub

    SLO Hub offers counseling and recovery services for homeless individuals experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance abuse challenges. This program is a collaboration between CAPSLO and Restorative Partners and is funded by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

    Recuperative Care Program

    40 Prado provides 6-beds, for 24-hour per day Recuperative Care Program that provides a safe place to recuperate and convalesce for individuals who would otherwise be discharged to the streets. In addition to providing emergency shelter beds 24 hours a day – 7 days a week, the program also provides around the clock staffing, case management, and is staffed by an RN who helps coordinate appropriate follow-up care and ensures that discharge plans are followed and adjusted as needed. Clients are referred to the program by the discharging hospital or a skilled nursing facility only.
